Clopay roller replacement in Dallas typically runs $110 – $220 installed, and we carry Clopay-compatible rollers on our trucks so the swap is usually done in one visit, often the same day you call. Most Dallas homeowners discover the problem the same way: a grinding noise when the door moves, a door that shudders halfway up, or a roller that’s visibly chewed up and wobbling in the track. The roller is the small wheel mounted on the side hinge that carries the door’s weight up and down the track, and when one fails, the whole door takes the strain. It’s a common failure on Clopay doors that have seen five to ten years of Dallas heat, and it’s a repair we knock out routinely.
Which Clopay Models This Applies To
This covers the full Clopay residential lineup we see across Dallas: the Classic, Gallery, Coachman, Reserve, and Bridgeport series, plus older Ideal and Holmes models that share Clopay hardware. What matters more than the series is the roller stem length. Clopay uses two primary configurations: a short-stem roller (usually 4 to 5 inches, used on standard residential doors) and a long-stem roller (7 inches and up, common on doors with exposed track or low-headroom kits). If someone installs a short-stem on a long-stem door, the roller pops out of the hinge under load, and that’s a dangerous failure waiting to happen. Check the label on the inside of the door panel first; if it’s gone, measure the stem from the hinge face to the wheel center. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: Clopay’s factory rollers are nylon with sealed ball bearings and hold up well, but we also stock a heavy-duty aftermarket option with a larger bearing that runs quieter and lasts longer on doors that open and close more than six times a day. Both are safe; the choice comes down to use level. And to be clear: Brock Garage Doors Dallas is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Clopay. We just work on these doors every week and know what fits.

Signs Your Clopay Roller Replacement Is Failing
- Grinding or scraping when the door moves. The bearing inside the roller has worn flat, so the wheel drags instead of spins. You’ll hear it most on the lower panels, which carry the most weight.
- Door shudders or hops on the way up. A roller with a worn bearing can’t roll smoothly, so it catches and releases in the track. This stresses the hinges and the operator motor.
- Visible wear on the wheel itself. If the nylon outer ring is flat-spotted, cracked, or missing chunks, the roller is done. No adjustment fixes that.
- The door looks off-level in the opening. When one roller collapses or seizes, the door drops on that side. You’ll see a gap at the bottom or a lean that wasn’t there before.
- Squealing or chattering near the track. That’s usually the bearing starved of lubrication. Once it’s dry, the wear accelerates fast, especially in Dallas heat that dries out factory grease.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Dallas, expect $110 – $220 installed for a full set of rollers on a standard two-car Clopay door. Here’s what drives the range:
- Roller count: A standard 7-foot door has 10 rollers; an 8-foot door has 12.
- Stem length: Long-stem rollers cost a few dollars more per piece.
- Bearing grade: Standard sealed bearing versus heavy-duty bearing, which we recommend for doors that cycle more than six times a day.
- Track condition: If the track is bent or misaligned where the roller failed, that gets corrected at the same visit, typically adding $120 – $240.
The price is handed to you in writing before the first roller comes out, and it includes the parts, the labor, and the full warranty. We use only rollers rated for the weight of a Clopay door, and every replacement is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a roller fails inside a year, we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely inspect the rollers yourself: look for flat spots, cracks, or wobble with the door closed and the opener disengaged. That’s useful information to have when you call. What we don’t recommend is pulling rollers out on your own. The bottom roller is held by a bracket under tension from the lift cables, and if that bracket is unbolted incorrectly, the cable can release violently. We’ve seen a cable snap take out a car mirror in a Dallas garage. For the top and middle rollers, the track bends outward to release them, and doing it wrong kinks the track, which turns a $110 job into a track realignment. If you’re not sure, call us at (254) 269-5837, describe what the door is doing, and Wade Mercer will tell you whether it sounds like rollers or something else before we ever roll a truck.
FAQs
Clopay’s factory nylon rollers typically last 7 – 10 years in Dallas, but the heat shortens that lifespan if the door faces west and bakes in the afternoon sun, which dries out the bearing grease faster. Rollers on doors that cycle four or more times a day wear out in 5 – 7 years. If your door is approaching that age and making noise, a roller replacement now is cheaper than the hinge or track damage that comes later. Call (254) 269-5837 for an exact quote.
No. Once the bearing is worn or the nylon wheel is flat-spotted, there’s nothing to repair; the roller is a sealed unit and replacement is the only fix. The good news is the repair is one of the more affordable jobs we do. Call (254) 269-5837 for a written price before we start.
About 45 – 90 minutes for a full set on a standard two-car door, depending on track condition and whether any hinges need attention at the same time. Most Dallas jobs are done in one visit, and we carry Clopay-compatible rollers on the truck in both short- and long-stem configurations. Call (254) 269-5837 to schedule a window.
We stock Clopay-compatible rollers in the common stem lengths and bearing grades on our service trucks, so we can usually complete the replacement the same day. For unusual configurations, like a 10-inch low-headroom stem, we may need a 24-hour parts pull from our Dallas supplier. Either way, the price is agreed in writing before any work starts. Call (254) 269-5837 and we’ll confirm what we’re bringing.
If your Clopay door is grinding, wobbling, or just not rolling right, call (254) 269-5837 and tell us what it’s doing. We’ll give you an honest read, a written price, and a repair that’s covered for a full year. Wade Mercer’s own words on it: “Tell me what it’s doing, I’ll tell you what it costs – no guessing, no surprises.”
